Note About Recent Fires: A wildfire affected the Avô area in August, 2025. At this time, there are ongoing issues with electricity, internet, and cell coverage at the hotel while the area recovers from the devastation. The hills around the hotel are blackened. It will take time to recover. We are keeping the hotel open in case anyone needs lodging, but we cannot guarantee some amenities like Netflix,WiFi, and AC.

Florbela Espanca (1894–1930) is one of Portugal’s most celebrated poets, known for her passionate, emotive poetry that explores themes of love, longing, and existential despair. Her life was marked by intense emotional experiences, personal tragedies, and a fierce independence that made her stand out in the conservative society of early 20th-century Portugal. She endured numerous losses, including the death of her brother and a series of troubled relationships, all of which left a deep impression on her poetry. These experiences, combined with her sensitive and introspective nature, made her poetry deeply personal and poignant.
